tea cups and a newspaper article

This little number will be going in the shop soon. The tea obsession continues......is there no stopping the madness? It's a print from an original mixed media work combining chiyogami, pen ink and digital colour. I'm a big fan of that particular colour blue.

And for those who missed my 2 minutes of media attention last Saturday here is the article that was in The Age newspaper about my printmaking. The editor was just amazing. I'd encourage any Australian artists/crafty types who are interested to get in touch with her. You might have to click on the article a few times to make the writing big enough to read.

stocking up

Over the last few days I've been printing away making more blue dragonfly cards to fill shops orders. Tombo, a gorgeous shop in Westgarth, Melbourne that stocks Japanese furniture to die for, have been keen to stock both the brown and blue dragonflies. I'm guessing this is because tombo means dragonfly in Japanese and so the cards will hopefully work well in their space. A stunning homewares and furniture shop in Fitzroy, Wilkins and Kent, are also now stocking some of my hand made woodblock print cards and vintage kimono cards.

you make my day award

The lovely and wonderful illustrator and printmaker, yellow monday, has tagged me with this very sweetly named 'you make my day award'. And the most incredible thing is that along with getting this award, something else made my day today. My cat, who has been missing for 2 long months, was found today by an amazingly caring cat-loving woman called Pieta about 10 mins walk from our house. Sumi is alive but injured and is currently at the vet tonight recovering from dehydration (it's been a hot summer). We are shell shocked but very very happy. Tomorrow night we might get her back from the vet (if all is well) and then begins her recovery with us back home. So.......what an amazing day it's been and then this award to top it off! Wooohooooo! Thanks yellow monday :)

"You make my day-Award" works like this:

1. Write a post with links to 5 blogs that make your day.
2. Acknowledge the post of the award giver.
3. Tell the award winners that they've won by commenting on their blogs
4. (optional) display the award with a link to the blog who nominated you

It was hard to pick just 5 blogs. But here are 5 that I've been reading of lot of lately. And yours too yellow monday!

a blog that just inspires and inspires with the non-stop new collection of print and patterned matter

mlee fine art

a printmaker from Boston whose work is unique and colourful. And the only non-Australian in my list.

new print and pattern book

This new book (not yet published) just looks incredible for anyone crazy about prints. The lovely print and pattern blog has a great series of images from it if you want to check it out in more detail. You might have to scroll down a bit til you get to the 5th Feb post on it. They also have details about how to pre-order the book from various online shops. I just love it that this kind of work is now available in book form. The lovely Lara from Melbourne-based kirin & co has some of her patterns printed in it too.

paper boat press

I've just discovered paper boat press through an article in today's paper on Kylie Johnson, a Brisbane based ceramics artist and poet. Her work is just so thoughtful and serene that I have to share it with you. I can think of at least one couple I know (she, a ceramics diva and he, a poet) who would love one of these poetry bowls.
