dry desert places
I've been away in places with lots of red dirt and beautiful coloured sands. It was hot but not too hot because it's autumn and the desert is more bearable at this time of year. Mungo National Park is a long, long way from Melbourne and Sydney but worth it if you have the energy and nerves to navigate a 110km long bumpy dirt road into the park. It was really good to be out in the bush again.
I had no idea Mungo is considered to be one of the world's most significant human cremation sites.

These are beautiful photographs. It reminds me of my visit to Uluru years ago. It was unforgettable.
ReplyDeleteThanks Priya! It was really gorgeous up there at Mungo. And not too hot for this time of year (though hot enough).
ReplyDeleteThis is where I used to camp as a child with my family.I live about an hour away. Although spectacular, the pit toilets did me in and I absolutely can never camp anywhere ever again.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea this is the area where you live Diana! I stayed in Mildura so was spared the pit toilets. And the dust.
ReplyDeleteamazing, lovely photos of such a special landscape - like priya, it reminds me of a stay i had on a community near where WA/SA and NT borders meet. australia's centre just blows me away, and the amazing thing is we all crouch on the edge of the land and turn our back on the beautiful deserts. but like robyn davidson says in her book tracks: 'the way you walk comes from the ground you walk on'.
ReplyDeletethanks for a lovely post!!
Looks like a really inspiring place to be. I'm always fascinated by the skies when I go out far west way.
