giving

Ask anyone and you will find I'm not known for my joyful approach towards the 25th. But I do have nephews & nieces. And we have a family kris kringle. So to decrease my contribution to the consumerist drive at this time of year if I can't make stuff for gifts I make the wrapping paper. And the cards. It's the least I can do.I use plain old brown paper by the roll as my back drop. Last year I made ginger bread for my work colleagues and wrapped them up with little home made gift tags. I don't know if I will get that excited again this year. It was like a factory in our kitchen getting all that organised.

Do you have any handmade tricks for this time of year? Ways to escape dishing out bucket loads of money?

  1. Oh my! This is such a wonderful idea for wrapping paper! It looks incredibly pretty. And as for giving gingerbread or baked stuff, i know i'd prefer getting some homemade goodies to some commercially bought thing which i'd probably never use.
I once gave someone a cake as a gift which was much appreciated. Somehow I never thought of doing that again. So this time, instead of racking my brains over what to give, I think baked stuff in homemade wrapping paper is SUCH a great idea. Thanks for sharing this with us :-)

  3. Kylie, I love your wrapping paper and cards. Makes me almost wish you were my auntie! ha ha ha. Weird. You know what I mean?! They look sensational. I wish everyone would do this... soooo much nicer than that bought stuff. We used to buy a special ornament each year, but this year I made our tree and most of the decorations on it (from paper). It was gratifying. We'll be doing the home made wrap paper and hand made gifts this year too, and I have the cards - of course! ha ha. Sorry for the long babble. LOVE your wrapping papers. :)

  4. I'm not a fan of the over-consumption that occurs at this time of the year either. We made a rule in my family that we don't exchange presents, instead making it a time to come together and share each other's company. It seems strange at first but it turns out to be quite a relief for everyone!

  6. In case anyone is interested to know I used watercolour paints on the brown paper to decorate the parcels. I forgot to mention that before.
