the lacuna

About a week ago I finished reading Barbara Kingsolver's new novel, The Lacuna, and I was left feeling quite bereft. It was such a good read that I didn't want it to end. A friend who was reading it at the same time said she felt the same way. But it did eventually end (like all good things, hey?) but I can live in hope that Ms Kingsolver will keep pumping out great novels like she has so far (think The Poisonwood Bible). If you love Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera's work then you'll be entranced by this story. It's a good long 507 pages if you buy the hard back version like I did. I suggest the paper back version if you like carrying your books around with you. My copy was like carrying a large brick. But a very fascinating, wonderful large brick at that.

  2. okay .. read the poisonwood bible quite a while back, thought it was very readable but not entirely convinced. However, have been really enjoying your book reviews and followed through with a few other of your suggestions that I really enjoyed. Will definitely give this a go.

Have to say that I LOVED the Stig Larson trilogy that greatly contributed to my having a fab, though short, summer break. Even though a few things about the writing drove me crazy. Seriously addictive reading. And is it only me or do Swedes really drink that much coffee? I would love someone to do a coffee count on those 3 books... I reckon there were about 50 + references to the drinking of coffee.

  3. FTD - have yet to read the Larson trilogy. It's sitting there on the shelf staring at me. Hope you enjoy The Lacuna as much as I did.

  4. Ooh, thanks for the tip. With the commute I am chewing through books.
How did you go last weekend? I've been wondering.
